Everything Indian students need to plan a Bachelor's or Master's in Sweden: what it costs, when to apply, which scholarships exist and how the student residence permit works.
Sweden offers hundreds of Bachelor's and Master's programs taught fully in English, at universities known for research, sustainability and close links to industry. Teaching is informal and project-based, and you can stay on after graduating to look for work.
Study engineering, computer science, business, life sciences and design in English, with no Swedish needed for your degree.
Students may work up to 15 hours a week during the semester and without limit in June, July and August, which helps with living costs and builds Swedish work experience.
Graduates can apply for a permit of up to 12 months to look for work or start a business in Sweden.
Our European office is in Borås, so we help you in person after you land: housing, personnummer, bank and orientation.
Tuition: students from outside the EU/EEA pay tuition. Most Master's programs cost roughly SEK 80,000 to 150,000 per year; some programs, such as design and medicine, cost much more. Fees are paid per semester, and you pay the first installment before applying for your residence permit.
Application fee: applications through universityadmissions.se carry a one-time application fee (currently SEK 900) per application round, covering up to four program choices.
Living costs: for your residence permit you must show that you have enough money to live on for the whole permit period. The Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) sets the monthly amount each year; we confirm the current figure with you during counselling.
Ways to reduce the cost:
Studies start in late August or early September. Applications open in mid-October and close on 15 January (for autumn 2027: 16 October 2026 to 15 January 2027). Almost all programs are open for this intake.
Studies start in January. Applications open on 1 June and close in mid-August (around 15 August), and fewer programs are open. It can be a good second chance if you miss the autumn round.

Yes, within limits. Under rules in force since 11 June 2026, Bachelor's and Master's students may work up to 15 hours a week during the semester and without limit in June, July and August. Working more can lead to your permit being withdrawn or not extended. Your income also does not replace the money you must show for the permit.
